Dental cum General check-up Clinic inaugrated

To keep the School Environment healthy, Principal Madhu Bahl took an initiative to start an In-house Dental cum General check-up Clinic in collaboration with "Simply Health Plus". School has its own 24 Hour Ambulance to meet any eventuality. The Teachers in the Junior Wing plan a dietary chart and the parents are asked to follow it to provide nutritional supplements to the growing children. The tiffin culture remains popular as the teachers monitor the classes during recess. The students are advised to bring fresh home-packed food rather than depend on the school mess.

The Principal monitors and has recently upgraded the canteen. Special care is taken to provide clean and edible nutritional snacks in the canteen. 
The School aims to develop value enhanced life-skills for coping and managing concerns of the Adolescents through co-scholastic activities. The Medical Practitioners based in the school, in its own fully equipped Medical-cum-Dental Clinic, along with the School Teachers and the Principal provide accurate knowledge to students about the process of growing up, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse and prevalent social vices. The students are encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyle, inculcate positive attitude and responsible behaviour towards the processof growing up, dealing with peer pressure, taking informed decisions and making healthy choices. 
The Principal who is certified AEP Trainer and a National Counsellor, appointed by CBSE, is easily accessible to the students and parents, who freely share their concerns with her.

MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMME’ FOR THE STUDENTS OF CLASS VIII TO XII

Mental health refers to the maintenance of successful mental activity, which includes maintaining productive daily activities, fulfilling relationships with others, emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps to determine how we handle stress, related to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is very important at every stage of life, from childhood, adolescence to adulthood.

To provide with better understanding of Mental health, K.B.D.A.V. Senior Secondary Public School, Chandigarh organised an informative session ‘Mental Health Programme’ for the students of class VIII to XII in B.S. Hall on October 10, 2023.

 

 

Mr. Manpreet Singh, PGT Psychology, Ms. Khushboo Saini, Counselor cum Special Educator, and Dr. Neetu Kapoor, the health office of the school helped the students in knowing how to deal with mental illness/pressure.

A sample for 50 students approx. of 15 to 16 years of age were collected with the help of BPNS Scale (Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction Scale – in General), i.e.  Autonomy, Competence, Relatedness. These basic psychological needs are positively related to work outcomes just like the self-determination theory which was developed by Richard Ryan and Edward Deci.

Students were highly motivated to ask questions and clear their doubts which helped them in boosting their confidence and perform self-analysis. The session proved to be fruitful.

 

SESSION ON MENSTRUAL HYGIENE FOR GIRLS AT KBDAV-7, CHANDIGARH

To enhance the capacity and knowledge of Adolescent girls and to manage their menstruation effectively in a hygienic way, an Interactive Session on Girl students was conducted at KB DAV-7, Chandigarh on a virtual platform on April 15, 2023 by Unicharm—CSR initiative of Unicharm.

 Around 250 girls of Classes 5th, 6th, and 7th were apprised of the Menstrual cycle, its Scientific details, Physical and behavioral Changes that occur during Puberty, Myths,  Misconceptions of the Menstrual Cycle and Personal Hygiene during periods.

 

 

Sustainability Goal 3 aims to Ensure Healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. All girl participants attended the session with full enthusiasm and a spirit of learning.

The cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide. The burden of cervical cancer is primarily borne by India, where it is the second most frequent cancer in women. In an effort to raise awareness regarding the Cervical Cancer, K.B. D.A.V. Senior Secondary Public School, Sector-7, Chandigarh organized an awareness interaction session for the girls of class Vlll on February 2, 2023 in the B.S. Bahi Hall.

 

Around 80 girls from the class VIll and 70 Girls from class IX attended the session and were apprised by Dr. Neetu, Medical Officer of the School. She presented a PowerPoint Presentation to enlighten the learners highlighting the meaning, signs and symptoms, prevention and treatment of cervical cancer by an audio-visual method. She stressed on educating the community towards lifestyle choices. The interactive session was concluded by addressing queries from learners, including Shreya Singh (VIll A) and Yashika (VIll D) with their intriguing questions “Does the radiation process hurt the patient?” and “Why does a cancer patient lose his/her hair?”. Overall, it was an illuminating awareness session that aided the young learners to learn about the most common cancer.

 

The school programme has brought about sustained improvement in behaviour, standards of work and school management.
