FUN, FROLIC, INFORMATION - DAY 5 AT NSS CAMP HAD IT ALL

The NSS camp at KB DAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector. 7 - B moved into its 5th Day today with the learners garnering more of information, but in a fun, playful manner. The first session received Mr. Siddaq Preet Singh, the Sustainability Instructor from  Thapar School of Management who came with his team to deliver a lecture on sustainability. He said that sustainability is not just environmentalism. Embedded in most definitions of sustainability we also find concerns for social equity and economic development. Adopting sustainable practices, whether large or small, can have significant impacts in the long run. He added that  by the end of the twentieth century, many of these ideas had come together in the call for ‘sustainable development.’

The next session was an unforgettable one with Mr. Bhupinder Singh from the Traffic Police, Chandigarh coming in to deliver his message in his unique way which he is known for widely. On the first day, the 50-member Unit of the school joined virtually as well as physically, with half of the learners connected online. The camp was inaugurated by the Principal of the school, Mrs. Pooja Prakash who addressed the volunteers and encouraged them to participate whole-heartedly in the activities lined up for them in a span of 7 days, and understand NSS from a closer look.

The NSS PO Mr. Shekhar Juneja then presented a PPT that highlighted the aims and objectives of NSS, with a special focus on the regular activities and the special camp. A session on Basic Life Support System presented by Ms. Natasha, the Clinical Instructor from Fortis Hospital under the guidance of Mrs. Meena Batta, Manager, Marketing Department, closed the day. The session was conducted online, but very effective as it gave a peep into what basically can be done in case someone around us receives a heart attack or a cardiac arrest.

KBDAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector. 7 - B, Chandigarh, thanks to Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Head Constable, Swayam team from UT police. The training was to defend oneself in case one is face to face with an unpleasant situation/person. It was difficult to judge what was more interesting – Mr. Sanjay’s lecture to the boys and girls on the right mode of living or his training of different strong moves to defend oneself in case of emergencies. He spoke about the lifestyle that is responsible for making us dullards, and camouflaging our capabilities, which are otherwise integrally present inside us. He then demonstrated different moves that can be used for self-defence, focusing on the strong and weak points in a human body. Even the learners attached online did the moves at their homes and enjoyed learning them.

SELF-DEFENCE TRAINING – THE BEST EXPERIENCE ON DAY 2 OF NSS CAMP

The second session was taken by Mr. Harminder Singh, Mrs. Gaganpreet Kaur and Mr. Sachin Lohan, the Art and Craft faculty of KBDAV - 7, Chandigarh who very nicely taught mask-making to the learners. The learners from Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector. 8 – D, Chandigarh also joined in virtually under the PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE SCHOOLS PROGRAMME. The learners, both physically and virtually present, learnt the art enthusiastically.

They said they now realize the importance of including exercise and yoga in their daily routines.

VOLUNTEERS PONDER OVER CAREER CHOICES ON DAY 4 OF NSS CAMP

After taking care of their health and fitness the previous day, the volunteers at the NSS camp at KBDAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector. 7 – B, Chandigarh, sat down today to ponder over the career choices that are open to them in future. Mr. Surinder Pal, a city-based career counselor, joined the volunteers to counsel them on what choices they can make once they come across the dilemma. He also shared his examples of thousands of students who visit him, totally confused and not sure till the end what to do. He motivated the volunteers to stay focused right from the beginning and never go astray. He also answered queries from the volunteers who joined online and satisfied them with his replies, replete with anecdotes.

Mr. Shonit Sharma, an alumnus from the School, then took over and delivered a motivational talk to the volunteers. He encouraged the learners to be the change that they wish to see around. He also told the learners to be the doers, not just be the believers. He took the queries and answered them in his usual quirky style.

KBDAV – 7 NSS VOLUNTEERS CHOOSE YOGA AND MEDITATION AS THE RIGHT WAY OF LIFE ON DAY 5

On Day 5 of their presence in the camp, the NSS volunteers of KBDAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector. 7 – B, Chandigarh found out the correct way of living life. Mr. Anurag Arora, the Yoga Instructor from the school was among them to once again remind them of the importance of making Yoga Aaasans an integral part of their lives. The instructor was good enough to not only have the volunteers perform different asanas, like Surya Namaskaar, Taar Aasan, Anulom-Vilom, and Shava Aasan, but also kept on informing them about the benefits of each  asanas on different parts of the body. He encouraged them to spare at least 15 minutes daily to perform yoga, failing which they may lose their immunity, and may age fast. He said the best way to keep the body function properly is to perform some common  asanas daily.

The second session of the day was taken by Sister Neha from Brahmkumaris Raj Yoga Bhawan, Sector. 33, Chandigarh. The session was about the impact that meditation can have in our life. Life will become much easier if we meditate daily in the morning and the evening, she said. All the negative emotions like hatred, jealousy, contempt, anger, impulsiveness, and adamance will go away, once we look into ourselves. We need to receive a better response from ourselves, she said, if we want to feel the internal peace, which is otherwise slipping far away from us. Just like Aatma Nirbhar Bharat, we need to find Aatma Nirbhar individuals to free ourselves from the shackles of emotional dependency, she said.

The NSS volunteers at KB DAV Sr. Secondary Public School-7, Chandigarh on the 6th day of their Camp, learned the way to de-stress themselves during the exam days with Ms. Anchal Sharma, the counselor from Fortis Hospital, Mohali delivering an impactful lecture on STUDY AND EXAM SKILLS IN DIGITAL ERA.  A wonderful session that dealt with all the aspects of exam-related anxieties were equally liked by all volunteers. Two videos at the end – the first a guide for the learners, and the second, a guide for the parents regarding dos and don’ts were quite helpful and informative.

Before this session, the learners participated in a small hand-wash activity near the water taps of the school. They underlined the need for proper cleaning of the hands so as to prevent being attacked by the virus, and break the deadly chain.

The last day of the NSS Camp had a visitor from the Election Department, Mr. Jiten Kumar, the Programmer, who joined online and made a PPT presentation. KBDAV VOLUNTEERS DE-STRESS THEMSELVES FOR THE ENSUING EXAMS

Mr. Bikram Rana then addressed the gathering and appreciated the efforts of the Unit during the camp. He talked of the precautions that we must continue taking in order to break the Covid chain. He also inspired the volunteers to transform India and make it a better place to live in. He recalled the endless problems that the country has been facing since Independence. NSS SPECIAL CAMP - 2019
December24,2019- December30,2019

7 DAY NSS SPECIAL CAMP OPENS ON AN ENCOURAGING NOTE AT KBDAV – 7

The 7-day NSS Special camp (24 December – 30 December, 2019) kick started on the campus of KBDAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector. 7 – B with the inauguration done by the Principal of the school, Mrs. Pooja Prakash. The theme of the camp is ‘Fit India Campaign’ with the tagline ‘NO PAINS NO GAINS’. The NSS contingent consists of 50 volunteers from Class XII who showed their utmost eagerness about this camp, and the programmes therein.

The day opened with the first session delivered by Mr. Jatin Kumar, the Technical Assistant from the Election Department based in Sector 18, Chandigarh. He introduced the volunteers to the nuances of election and voting processes. With the help of the PPTs and videos, Mr. Jatin made the volunteers aware that voting is not limited to the pressing of the button on a voting machine. It’s a great responsibility with each voter to give the best candidate a chance to lead. His detailed description of the election process intrigued the learners who answered his queries at the end, showing how much they had deeply understood it.

The next session was taken up by a learned team of doctors and trainers from the Fortis Hospital, Mohali who came up with their paraphernalia to demonstrate to the volunteers the sensitivity attached to the cases where a patient experiences heart and cardiac attacks. A timely help to such a patient can save not only a precious life, but also his entire family’s future, said Dr. Sunil Gupta who was accompanied by Ms. Meena, the Marketing Head, and Ms. Harvinder Kaur, the BSL trainer. Basic Life Support training is the basis of saving such a life that is on the cusp of being lost eternally. A cardiac arrest is different from a heart attack in the sense that the former often happens due to the latter, but the latter is never a result of the former. Cardiac arrest is sudden stoppage of heart beat, whereas heart attack shows signs of blockage of blood vessels, said Dr. Sunil Gupta. A demo of BLS and CPR on the dummies demonstrated to the learners brought them to try it themselves.

The NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Shekhar Juneja introduced NSS and its importance to the volunteers through a PPT Presentation, with a nod from the State Liaison Officer, Mr. Bikram Rana, with much to come for the volunteers in the coming days.

The second day(December 25, 2019) of the ongoing NSS camp began on an energising note with the NSS volunteers folding their bodies into different ‘aasans’ that they performed under the tutelage of Mr. Anurag, the Yoga expert, attached with the school for a long time. So much lies hidden in Yoga practice that must become an inseparable part of everybody’s life, quipped Mr. Anurag, while guiding the volunteers on different ‘aasans’ and their importance for the different organs of our body. The volunteers braved the morning chillto do yoga and actually felt refreshed.

The next session with Mr. Sanjay Kumar, the Head Constable from Traffic Police, Chandigarh took the NSS group by storm. Hilarious, informative, enlightening and confidence-building was this interaction between Mr. Sanjay and the NSS volunteers who talked to them about SELF DEFENCE TECHNIQUES, which he said are manifold. He took a promise from the group to be good citizens and follow the rules of the society to be on the safe side always.

Mrs. Rubisha Pandit was the next speaker of the day and she talked at length about PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT, and the nitty-gritty attached to it. She not only defined ‘personality’ correctly but also had the group take a peep into the real-life personalities who have risen to fame, by showing them a couple of inspiring videos. She said failures should not hold us back as they only make us stronger and leave us more determined than before.

The day could not have ended in a better manner than it did with Mr. J. S. Jayara, the principal of the Blind Institute located in Sector. 26, Chandigarh, interacting with the NSS volunteers. Despite being blind, he has never allowed his disability impede his progress, and has moved on in an equally confident manner, if not better, as a successful person with no disability. Mr. Jayara has been an epitome of success and the best example to stop cribbing about our disabilities, and believe in our inner strengths. The NSS voluteers are not tired of thanking the school for making each passing day so interesting and enlightening.

The third day of the 7 – day NSS camp happening at KBDAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector. 7 – B, Chandigarh introduced the volunteers to their individual personality that has been waiting inside them to be explored. The three speakers of the day took one session each with the NSS volunteers to introduce to them various ways of developing their personalities and a plethora of career options after they finish their schooling.

Mr. Sandeep Joshithe famous cartoonist from The Tribune made the day for the volunteers with his ever-interesting way of presenting his journey to be at this famous platform today. He also encouraged the learners to develop some interest in art and craft, besides focusing on their targets. This will help the students to keep a balanced personality, and not go astray. Mr. Joshi received a huge applause for his interactive ways and charming personality.

It moved on with Miss Aanchal Sharma, the Counselling Psychologist from Fortis Hospital, Mohali delivering a mind-awakening session on not only identifying the personality within, but also develop it bit by bit with each passing year. She showed them a PPT and a couple of videos to corroborate the fact that certain hurdles are faced by everyone at this junction of the life, but they should all be overcome with grit and determination.

Equally interesting and informative was the next session with Ms. Jasleen Kaur, who introduced to the NSS volunteers to the options in life of Career Progression and the ways to Personality Development. She mostly spoke about it by talking about herself, how her life went on to be completely different when she chalked out a path for herself, instead of paying attention to hearsays. She guided students to be self-dependent, confident and progressive. She said depending on crutches like tuitions makes a person dependent forever.

Each passing day is leaving behind an indelible mark on the minds of the volunteers.

On the fourth day of the NSS camp at KBDAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector. 7 – B, Chandigarh,  Mrs. Beenu Malhotra, the teacher of English from the school presented an inspirational session on  ‘SELF – ESTEEM’. The session included the elements of Self-Esteem and how to boost it by developing different strategies. The volunteers were suggested to believe in themselves and through a video were conveyed ‘Procrastination is the thief of time’.. They would benefit from their ‘altered routine’ even during their exams which are round the corner. The volunteers liked the session a lot and gave it thumbs up.

Two dedicated former students, Fairy and Febby from the previous year’s batch, paid a surprise visit to the camp and talked to the volunteers about their experience from last year, being NSS volunteers themselves.  They motivated the volunteers to attend the camp religiously and not for the sake of it. They said there is a lot to learn from the camp, if they wish to. They thanked their alma mater and the staff members for the support and encouragement extended to them during their stay with the school.

The day ended on a high note with Mr. Sunil Panghal  from State AIDS Control Society, U. T. Chandigarh addressing the volunteers on one of the most sensitive and vulnerable issues – AIDS. Mr. Panghal spoke in detail not only about causes, symptoms and diagnosis of AIDS, but also about other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), which are equally a matter of concern. He removed certain myths surrounding AIDS, and kept asking the volunteers certain questions in between to remove their hesitations about this condition. The volunteers felt informed and ‘protected’.

The fifth day turned out to be the most happening day of the NSS camp at KBDAV Senior Secondary Public School, Sector.  7 – B, Chandigarh. The first day opened on a precautionary note regarding the natural disasters and calamities. And there could be no better person to deliver a talk on this ‘cracking’ issue than Ms. Promila Deol, the teacher of Social Studies from the school. She cautioned the students regarding various calamities and catastrophes which may occur any time anywhere in the world. Back home, Chandigarh is the 4th most sensitive zone across the country, Ms. Deol said. She further said there is no need however to be panicky when a disaster strikes. Rather it requires apt preparedness to safeguard oneself. She said every school and college has a school/college plan to safeguard their staff and learners.

The next session swayed the learners with it, with Mr. Bhupinder Singh from the Chandigarh Police singing paeans about the traffic rules which this age group overlooks the most. He said that this age group of the volunteers is the most vulnerable when it comes to adhering to traffic rules. He also informed the learners about the revised traffic challans which have been raised only to sensitise the traffic violators. He quoted the latest figures and data to corroborate the fact how serious and urgent the issue of traffic rules is. But the best part was his singing the songs on traffic rules and creating ‘sensitivity’ in his unique way.
